Pobal Parnell Secretary Report 2025

On the 20th of January 2025, a meeting was held with all interested parties within our local community to continue the long-standing tradition of a GAA club in our area. Pobal Parnell was formed, and an executive committee was elected to establish Pobal Parnell. In February 2025, Pobal Parnell was formally affiliated with the GAA.
Once Pobal Parnell was formed, the executive has worked together with volunteers and the local community to strengthen our presence in the area. On behalf of the executive committee, I would like to extend my thanks to all our members, coaches, delegates, volunteers, and parents for your continued support over the last year.
Our first year at Pobal Parnell saw remarkable successes on the pitch from our Senior Ladies and Men’s Hurling teams, bringing silverware to the club. Our Junior Hurlers won both their league and championship, and our Senior Ladies won the Intermediate Championship. Both matches saw a fantastic turnout from club supporters. The club hosted the Ladies on their Leinster bid — this day saw many compliments and thanks for our hosting.
In recent weeks, the executive appointed Matthew Higgins as our GPO, engaging with local schools in the Dublin 5 & 17 area on a weekly basis. Congratulations to Matthew on his appointment. The appointment of a GPO will see our club further develop and strengthen our Juvenile section.
The club held successful Easter and Summer Camps this year, with both summer camp weeks in July being at full capacity. A further highlight was the end-of-school Summer Blitz held in Chanel, where local schools brought 90 children to compete in Gaelic games.
During the year, Aisling Kane led an Introduction to Coaching workshop, where participants gained valuable knowledge to help children develop their abilities and skills.
The club held many days out this year for our Juvenile section, which saw our Under-12 Girls team out supporting Chloe Darby and her Dublin teammates. The wider Juvenile section had a day out organised by the Juvenile Chairperson, where they completed the Alive Outside Hell & Back course. By the end of the summer, the club hosted the Mini All-Irelands, where teams from across the Juvenile section mixed and displayed their skills. There was a huge turnout of children, parents, and volunteers from the community.
Thank you to all who were involved in the planning and preparation of this day. Pobal Parnell also recently held the Halloween Disco in Chanel, where our teams came dressed up and enjoyed a fantastic night with their teammates.
I’d like to extend a thank-you on behalf of the executive to the hurling and football delegates who were a fantastic support to the club this year.
Throughout the year, the club has implemented subcommittees across finance and sponsorship areas. Thank you to all our volunteers who have contributed to the ongoing success of the first year of Pobal Parnell.
Thank you to our PRO and all volunteers who have seen our presence on social media grow and kept all members updated on ongoing activities and match results throughout the year. You have been a huge part of growing the club.
I’d like to finish by saying thank you to all members, volunteers, parents, and executive members for your ongoing support during the first year of Pobal Parnell. Our community continues to grow, showing the dedication of all involved, both on and off the pitch.

Facilities

When the club was established earlier this year, our continued use of St David’s saw the erection of temporary floodlights to allow training to continue for both Adult and Juvenile teams. In addition, an application was submitted to Dublin City Council, which granted the club access to further pitches in Belcamp Park, where several Pobal Parnell teams played this year.
Mid-year, the club saw our return to Chanel in July, securing a lease to use both the All-Weather and Astro pitches. The works required to get the pitches into usable condition would not have been possible without Stephen Duffy and the hard work of club volunteers. Multiple clean-up efforts were organised to tidy the grounds, including cutting the grass pitches and clearing the surrounding areas.
There was investment in the grass pitch with new netting and goal purchased.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of dedicated volunteers and the wider community. As summer came to a close, the back walls of the pitches were painted green and black to highlight our return, with the prominent club colours visible for all to see.

Fundraising & Sponsorship

Fundraising for the club kicked off in March with a successful race night. The effort of putting a great night together wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the Senior Ladies.
I’m pleased to report that this year the club has set up a subcommittee that has devised a plan to offer four tiers of Corporate Sponsorship. Displays surrounding the pitches at Chanel will showcase our sponsors in the coming weeks.
I’d like to extend my thanks on behalf of the club to all our sponsors throughout the last year — whether for matches, individual teams, or gestures of goodwill from members of our community. Your ongoing support has helped us establish ourselves within the GAA community and provide facilities for our teams.

Fundraising Club Lotto

In September, the club launched our Lotto, which takes place each Monday evening. This was launched across ClubZap and through the sale of physical tickets. The use of ClubZap has enabled members to enter the Lotto weekly, monthly, or yearly, with recurring payment options.
The process of setting up the Lotto would not have been successful without the dedication and hard work of both executive members and volunteers who have committed their time weekly to ensure its success. Thank you to all our sellers and organisers.
